Our eyes have their own natural defence mechanisms such as eyelashes, tears, eyelids and the eye closing reflex.
However, if these natural functions are impaired or damaged by for example, UV rays, eye disease or airstreams from high speeds (over 10 km/h), irreparable damage can occur.
The sun’s rays represent a major risk. Harmless visible light represents only one small band (green) within solar radiation.
The most dangerous band is UV radiation below 400 nm.
Only protection with high quality UV – absorption provide enough protection against this.

UV Protection and coloured lenses
Coloured lenses have been used to protect people against glaring sun radiation since the 15th century. However it wasn’t until the 19th century that it was recognised, that UV radiation harms the human eye and can even lead to blindness.
The best protection against harmful UV radiation are high-grade sports glasses such as uvex with specially coated lenses!
All uvex sports glasses have a special UV filter, which excludes 100% of the harmful radiation. UV protection however doesn’t depend on the lens’ colour. Different lens colours are necessary for different light and weather conditions. In glaring sunlight for example, dark lenses protect the eyes against fatigue and support your ability to concentrate. In diffuse light conditions like rain, fog and snowfall, orange lenses give a better contrast. The secret of contrast reinforcement is the reduction and filtering of the blue light.
All uvex sports glasses have such a blue filter – in the exact dose. Only the fine adjusted mixture of the different filters and colours provide the best contrast reinforcement without influencing the peripheral view. Additionally, all uvex lite mirror models have lenses with a light mirror and infrared protection.
